Concert Studio

Martín Pérez Lombarte, CEO of Concert Studio

What does the company specialize in?

We specialize in organizing, producing and directing music festivals, recitals and concerts. In addition to our usual festivals Festival Internacional de Cambrils, Festival del Mil.leni and Festival Jardines de Pedralbes, we are currently working on 9 new events that have been adapted to comply with healthcare measures requiring reduced capacity. The Festival de Pedralbes received the award for the best Spanish festival in 2019, but this year, for obvious reasons, we created a smaller festival called Fes Pedralbes, which was a resounding success and was appreciated by audiences, the music business, and all the citizens of Barcelona.

When did you start to work in this company?

I am the founder of the company, which I started in 1995.

What do you like most about your job?

I like to work on things that are capable of being recorded in both the real and the emotional memory of large numbers of people. I also enjoy the process of thinking about concerts and artists, and then making the events happen in due course. I also like to believe that my work may have an impact on the life of the city, as we are also a company that seeks to increase Barcelona’s prestige.

And what do you like least?

Artists who don’t put their heart and soul into their work. And the narrow-mindedness I often see in public administrations.

What do you think your company excels at?

We excel in attention to detail, in looking after the public, and in making sure the job is well done. This makes us unique.

What is your main challenge?

To make the Jardines de Pedralbes Festival the best festival in Europe and to encourage people to make a pilgrimage to Barcelona every year to attend it. I am convinced that this is possible.

Where is your company located? Do you know why this place was chosen?

In Barcelona, in the Eixample. I chose this location because I was born in Barcelona and it is my home.

What do you like most about the neighborhood where you work?

The fact that it is both central and quiet.

How important is Barcelona for your company?

Barcelona is our inspiration.

With which city would you compare Barcelona?

With Cannes.

What form of urban model should Barcelona adopt?

Barcelona should be a city of hope, innovation, and the avant-garde... as well as lively, warm, and friendly: the Barcelona we all know and love.

What best practices from other cities would you like Barcelona to adopt?

I would like us to share the approaches to culture seen in Malaga and Salzburg.

What do you ask of the Barcelona of the future?

I would like the city’s administration to have a more open mind so it recognizes the value of culture and gives it the place it deserves as one of the great engines of progress. Barcelona is a city with talent and I would like to ensure that there are always opportunities for talented people in Barcelona.
