Marc Dufraisse: 'Barcelona will always attract international talent'

Why did you choose Barcelona?

Barcelona has always been my second home, after Paris. I lived in Barcelona between the age of 8 and 14, and I have always been strongly attracted to its culture, language and Mediterranean climate. I had always wanted to work here and my illness was the wake-up call I needed to start a journey that would change me and to devote myself to what I really wanted to do, run my own consultancy in Barcelona.ía sido mi segunda casa después de París. What do you like most about the city?

I am fascinated by city’s built environment. Since we’ve been allowed out, I’ve been taking advantage of the time out to go on bike rides through traditional neighborhoods like Sant Andreu and Horta. I enjoy exploring the backstreets and discovering new places. As for its business fabric, I love the great potential of its multiculturalism, which provides great opportunities for local and international talent and encourages startups and initiatives such as 22@. It's an excellent place for entrepreneurship. urbanismo de la ciudad. ¿What do you expect from Barcelona in the coming years?é aspectos de la ciudad hay que mejorar y a qué retos crees que se enfrenta la ciudad una vez remita la emergencia sanitaria?  

The biggest challenge the city faces, and this was the case even before COVID-19, is how to cope with the gentrification (also present in Paris, my home town) and mass tourism which have so blurred the identity and character of the city. I believe that we now have a great opportunity to take advantage of the multicultural nature of our citizens and to develop a more thoughtful view of Barcelona. This will mean promoting more sustainable urban mobility, such as the use of bicycles and electric scooters. The COVID-19 crisis should encourage us to question our economic models and seek more kindhearted, communal and compassionate lifestyles. I would love Barcelona to lead the world in this way. I see this situation as an opportunity to lend a hand to all entrepreneurs and managers in their new challenges and to support them in their own transformation processes.ía antes del COVID-19, era afrontar la gentrificación (muy presente en París, mi ciudad natal) y el turismo de masas que había desdibujado la identidad y carácter de la ciudad. Creo que ahora tenemos una gran oportunidad para reconquistar Barcelona desde una perspectiva más considerada con nuestra ciudadanía multicultural. También será importante promover una movilidad urbana más sostenible, como por ejemplo ir en bicicleta o moto eléctrica. La crisis Executive COVID-19 debería incitarnos a revisar nuestros modelos económicos y buscar estilos de vida más humanos, colectivos y generosos. Me encantaría que Barcelona liderase este nuevo modelo. Veo esta situación como una oportunidad para echar una mano a todos aquellos emprendedores y directivos en sus nuevos desafíos y acompañarlos en sus propios procesos de transformación. 

¿What are the strengths that will help the city overcomeáles crees que son los puntos fuertes de la ciudad para superar la crisis generada por the CCOVID-19?  

Its geographical location, its climate, its cultural wealth and its strong business fabric have always meant that Barcelona has always been seen as a great place for attracting international talent, and I think this will continue to be so.ón geográfica, su clima, su riqueza cultural y su fuerte tejido empresarial han hecho que Barcelona esté siempre en el mapa, considerada como una genial opción para atraer talento internacional, y creo que seguirá siéndolo.   

¿What do you expect from Barcelona in the coming years?é esperas de la Barcelona de los próximos años?  

I think that its great qualities will continue to attract people with potential who will want to live here while teleworking for businesses based in other countries. I know French people who are already doing this and I think it will be an increasingly popular trend, as the instant travel which we had become so used to may well be on the way out., gracias a sus grandes cualidades, Barcelona seguirá atrayendo gente con potencial que querrá residir aquí mientras teletrabaja en sus negocios establecidos en otros países. Conozco casos de franceses que ya están haciéndolo y creo que será una tendencia al alza debido a los posibles cambios que habrá en la cultura del viaje inmediato, a lo que estábamos tan acostumbrados.
